India is a diverse culture, an amalgamation of a variety of ethnic groups and religions. Some historians regard it is as one of the most ancient civilizations that dates back to 8000 BC. However, today the Indian civilization has created a niche mark of its own all across the world. It is quite commendable in a way because Indian cuisine, Indian fashion, yoga etc have become quite famous in distinct parts of the world.
There are certain fundamental factors that distinguish Indian culture from rest of the existing cultures. They include a variety of exquisite dishes in their cuisine to unique festivals.
Here is a brief description of some common festivals and traditions of India:
Namaste is a salutation used in Hindi and it means ‘I bow to you’. The word is used out of respect to greet others commonly by folding both hands together.
India is the land of colors and festivals. There’s a long list of their festivals I’ve listed a few of them
- Holi – It is the festival of colors. Spring is the season for it when everyone comes together and enjoys the festival by playing with colors irrespective of their age.
- Raksha Bandhan – The loving relation of a brother and sister is celebrated through this festival also known as Rakhi. The sister ties a sacred thread on the brother’s hand wishing him a blessed life.
- Diwali – Commonly known as Deepawali as well is probably the most important festival for Hindus. It is also known as the ‘festival of lights’.
- Navratri – Nava means nine and ratri means nights. The nine forms of Shakti Devi are worshipped during these nine nights and ten days.
A few of the delicious Indian dishes include:
- Chole Bhature
- Daal Makhni
- Pani Puri
- Daal Baati Churma
- Paneer paratha etc
Tempted yet? I sure am.
