This very talented ‘Son of the Soil’ Abdul Halder proved his brilliance once again with his Fall/Winter collection at Lakme Fashion Week’09 Day 1. His spectacular theme for this year’s Fashion week was comprised of stunning ethnic Indian wear.
The collection centered on scintillating ‘lehengas’ and ‘cholies’, some short tunics, chic kurtas and some elegant pre-stitched saris. The list goes on as he also displayed his creative work on ‘bridal sherwanis’ with either ‘churidars’ or Aligarh pants for men, in dazzling colors such as purple, aquamarine, red, turquoise, orange, brown, rust, green and shocking pink.
He mostly made use of luxuriant fabrics which include velvet, chiffon and silk. The dresses were embellished with embroidery in gold, silver and gotta work was a prominent feature, adding that extra touch of magic. The best pieces included the velvet peplum jacket with long sleeves which was artistically paired with a shocking pink embroidered sari, a red glittering body-hugging lehenga, a beautiful black silver bordered sari with a covered choli and a pleasing to the eye white one button Raja coat with churidars.
Abdul’s color combinations were widely representing the Indian culture. Using emerald with shocking pink for a tunic teamed with knit churidars, was truly an exquisite sight. The best was left for the end – a fully embellished celestial corset and feline lehenga worn by Bollywood actress Shweta Bhardwaj and a classic white sherwani worn by Bollywood actor Sonu Sood made a sensational milestone.
