I Had No Plans Of Getting into the Movies: Simran Kaur Mundi
Simran Kaur Mundi believes in the ‘just do it’ philosophy rather than earmarking a career strategy. Four years back she debuted with Jo Hum Chahein and then followed it up with the Ekta Kapoor-Bejoy Nambiar Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayi. “I had no plans of getting into the movies,” smiles Simran who recently impressed us by playing Kapil Sharma’s fourth wife Simran in the recent Kis Kisko Pyaar Karu.
As a youngster, she idolised Kareena Kapoor and impersonating ‘Poo’ from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G) in front of the mirror was her favourite pastime. “I knew Poo’s lines by heart. But in public I lacked confidence! I was good at sports but too shy for dramatics,” reveals Simran who believed the corporate world would be where she would find her feet. But as she grew older, the pretty girl ditched her bashful side, slipped into her stilettos and hit the runway.
The ramp scorcher was also crowned the Femina Miss India Universe 2008 and since then there has been no looking back. “After the pageant, showbiz was the next big step,” she states. Her damp debut, Jo Hum Chahein, didn’t dampen her spirit though.

She went on to do two Punjabi films (Best of Luck and Mundeyan Ton Bachke Rahin) and one Telugu film (Potugadu). She says landing the role in Kis Kisko Pyar Karu was a breeze. “I met Abbas-Mustan sir last September.
They hadn’t seen my work nor had they auditioned me. But they said they had selected me the minute I walked into the office. This was the fastest ‘yes’ from any director,” she shares. The actress was excited to pair with Kapil Sharma, who has a legion of female fans given his quirky sense of humour. In fact, when Simran told her parents that she would be working with Kapil, they were keen to know when she would be appearing in his hit TV show Comedy Nights With Kapil.
“Kapil is down to earth and humble. He delivers the funny lines effortlessly and makes it all look so easy. He can make anything sound funny. I got to learn much from him. Matching his comic timing has definitely enhanced my skills too.” The film also starred a bevy of beauties – Manjari Fadnis, Elli Avram and Sai Lotkar.

Simran says so
I FEAR… uncertainty. We invest so much time and energy in a film and a Friday can change your fate for the better or for the worse!
I LOOK FOR… love, trust, transparency and understanding in a relationship.
I’M A SELFLESS… girlfriend. The person I’m with becomes my world. I place him before myself.
I CAN’T SAY NO TO… butter chicken, aloo paratha and sarson da saag with dollops of ghee!
I FORGIVE… easily. A simple ‘sorry’ goes a long way for me.
