There is no doubt that Deepika Padukone is a brilliant actress. One glimpse at the first look of her next film, Chhapaak, will make all your doubts vanish. Directed by Raazigenius Meghna Gulzar, the film portrays the challenging life of acid-attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal.
In recent times, we have been wowed with the level of prosthetics and makeup used to build characters on-screen. From Rishi Kapoor in Kapoor and Sons and Amitabh Bachchan in Paato Banita Sandhu in October–we’ve come a long way in terms of special effects. Deepika in Chhapaak seems to be following suit.
We are used to seeing Deepika in her glammed-up avatars. This will be the first time we’ll get to see her in such a challenging role. Essaying the role of an acid-attack survivor who has gone through extreme levels of trauma is no easy feat. The film will see legends like Meghna and Leena Yadav coming together, in collaboration with Fox Star Studios.
Vikrant Massey is the second lead of the film. We loved him in Mirzapurand can’t wait to see him on the big screen. Vikrant has been exceptional in the past too (he starred in Dil Dhadakne Do and A Death in the Ganj, amongst other films) making us wonder if there are in fact big producers out there, looking for real talent. It honestly is the time for a fresh breed of actors. You know the ones who are kicking stereotypes in the butt with their acting? The Ayushmann Khurranas and Rajkummar Raos of the world unite!
Deepika took to her Instagram to announce the start of shooting. The film will release on 10th January 2020. The poster even got Varun Dhawan excited and commenting. We definitely back him up in the excitement department. While this is the tiniest dose of Deepika we got after Padmavaat, we cannot wait for all that’s left to come!
