It’s not really a fashion week without showstoppers. Disha Patani walked down the runway in a while corset dress covered in florals for Label Ritu Kumar. The premium high street label presented their spring/summer 2018 collection keeping up with international timelines.
The lineup saw versions of tropical prints, white lacy day dresses, tulle skirts and colour-blocked garments that were perfect for a holiday wardrobe. Masaba Gupta delved into occasion and bridal wear this season with her collection ‘Madagascar’.
Nowhere near the heavy lehengas favoured by girls on the wedding day, Gupta’s brides are about pre-draped sari hybrids in pop hues with matching bum bags. It’s certain the collection will find fans in a younger, cooler audience than the median.
The biggest highlight of the day was easily Sanjay Garg’s presentation of the Lakmé Absolute Grand Opening for winter/festive 2017. Set against the romantic, newly-revived Royal Opera House, Mumbai, the show was a sight for sore eyes. Garg’s collection ‘Cloud People’ explored themes of cupids, unearthly spirits and symbols of hope through the use of chikankari and signature weaves.
To go with the theme of cupids, Garg thought of using a choir to provide the perfect background track for the length of the show. With attendees including Kiran Rao to Manish Malhotra, the show was well received by the audience.
