Deepika Padukone has emerged as one of the most sought-after actresses in the film industry. The actress has tasted success from her very first film opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om. But it wasn’t a cakewalk for the actress whohad her share of downfalls before bouncing back with hit films. The actress experimented with bold roles in films like Cocktail where she essayed a grey character. She is one of the few actresses whose many films have entered the Rs 100 crore club.

Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan entertained everyone with their heady romance gone wrong in Cocktail. Their on-screen chemistry was much appreciated. Deepika feels that Cocktail was one of the most difficult roles of her career. Deepika Padukone, who has received great success in commercial cinema, has always experimented with different roles and doesn’t restrict herself to mainstream films. In an interview to IANS, Deepika reasons, “Some of my films didn’t work so I went through that rough phase and I think I made use of that time and realised my mistakes. Instead of being bogged down, I made use of it. Cocktail was the turning point in my career.”

Deepika and Saif Ali Khan shared a sizzling chemistry in the sequel to Race. Race 2 entered the 100 crore club in 14 days. According to a report in Koimoi, the film entered the Rs 100 crore club on the 14th day of its release, with an approximate earning of Rs 101 crore.

Defending her choice of films which are a healthy mix of commercial and art cinema, Deepika says, “I can’t do anything more intense than Veronica from Cocktail. I don’t differentiate cinema. I don’t like differentiating between art and commercial cinema. For me film is a film. What I give for any film is the same. 

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani:

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s chemistry in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani didn’t even give an inkling of their break up. In an interview with TOI, Ayan had said, “We are the new-generation which is why ex-lovers are able to look back at time and understand their difficulties. The ice was broken and we started for shooting Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. I, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika have sat down many times and things have been normal for a while. They are good friends; they can chat and speak to each other now.

After Deepika Padukone’s entry in Bollywood with Om Shanti Om, she was again seen with the king of romance in the Rohit Shetty film Chennai Express.

The film set new records at the box-office and Deepika was loved as a South Indian girl. In an interview with IANS, when she was asked if she is afraid of losing her stardom, she clarified, “No, not at all. I know my stardom isn’t going to be there all my life. I am secure about my work, but I don’t expect to be a star all my life. It’s practically impossible and if anyone thinks like that, they are delusional.”

Ram-Leela became a huge hit and made Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone one of the most sought-after couples in Bollywood. The actress has received a lot of praise for her intense acting in the film. Ranveer and Deepika’s chemistry too thrilled one and all. In an interview with IANS, Deepika said, “Awards matter to me. I would have been very disappointed if I was not given any award last year. No matter what we say but at the end of the day, the person who goes there and wins the award feels good about it.”

Happy New Year is Deepika’s third film with Shah Rukh Khan. Their chemistry has been much appreciated. After Om Shanti Om and Chennai Express, SRK and DP recreated magic with HNY. According to a Red Chillies press note, the film managed to touch the coveted Rs 100 crore mark over the weekend, grossing Rs 108.86 cr, with a break-up of Rs. 104.10 cr in Hindi, Rs. 2.92 cr in Telugu and Rs. 1.84 cr in Tamil. Happy New Year is produced by SRK’s Red Chillies and directed by Farah Khan, starring an ensemble cast of Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani and Vivaan Shan besides Shah Rukh Khan
